[TSB]: KIA Sorento XM – constant engine oil leaks.

This technical service board is for XM Sorento models: 2009-2014

If you notice your KIA Sorento is constantly leaking, chances are it might be a quick fix…

Although other technicians may diagnose it as a faulty rear seal leak, many of the times that isn’t the case.

It’s most likely your oil pressure sensor which is causing the issue.

There are 2 ways to resolve the issue.

    1. Replace the oil pressure terminal hardware
      (This is a bit more labor and parts)
    2. Use gasket sealer to plug up sensor threads

How Do I Find Difficult Oil Leaking From My Car?

Have you been noticing your car has been leaking oil for some time now?  Maybe you’ve gone underneath the vehicle to check where it’s coming from, but you’re just having difficulty finding where the leak is.

If you’re facing this problem, the best solution is to use a florescent dye with a UV flashlight. You’ll want to multi-purpose florescent dye that’s used in automotives. 

Generally these dyes can be used for engine, transmission, AC, and coolant leaks. There are even full kits which have everything you need to locate your leaks.

How to Use

    1. Using florescent dye to locate leaks is very a simple process.
      For instance, if you’re trying to find an engine oil leak, you’ll want to pour the dye into the engine oil cap.
    2. Next, start the car up and let it run a good 10 minutes to let the florescent dye circulate through the system.
    3. Shut off the vehicle.
    4. Use a UV flashlight to inspect the engine block.
    5. Locate where the leaks are coming from and trace it back to the source.

The process is similar for transmissions, differentials, AC, and coolant systems. Just make sure to pour the florescent dye in the correct inlet. Then follow the Steps 2-5 as before.
